How IPL Technology Works

LUMI™ used Advanced IPL Technology to Eliminate Unwanted Hair | evoDerma LUMI™

IPL Hair Removal Technology

How It Works Intense Pulsed Light technology (or also known as IPL) is a proven and effective method of hair removal that has been used for over 15 years by professionals in spas and dermatology clinics all over the world. It is based on a process called photothermolysis, which uses optical energy to disable hair growth.

The method is effective because hair contains a pigment called 'melanin' which, in this case, absorbs the energy emitted by the light pulses. The pigment transforms the light pulses into heat and acts as a conductor, directing the energy towards the base of hair follicle. This process disables hair follicle, thereby achieving progressively long-term results by preventing future hair growth.

Every hair goes through three distinct phases, which are part of hair growth cycle. These three phases are the following: Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

Anagen is the phase in which hair grows, whereas Catagen and Telogen are resting phases. A full hair growth cycle can take eighteen to twenty-four months. The length of a full hair growth cycle depends on the location of hair and can vary from person to person. LUMI™ is effective on hairs that are in the anagen phase.

Difference Between Laser And IPL Technology

Laser and IPL are two technologies derived from photothermolysis. The main difference between the two hair removal methods is that IPL has a much wider range of wavelengthes. This means that the laser will be more efficient for one specific type of hair whereas IPL will allow the treatment of a variety of hair thicknesses.

IPL Technology has been deemed, by dermatologists and by the general medical community, as a safe and reliable method for hair reduction. Many aesthetic clinics use similar methods for hair removal, but LUMI™ offers you the results at a fraction of the cost and in the privacy of your own home.

LUMI™ provides you with permanent hair reduction results leaving you with smooth and silky skin all year long.

IPL, A Clinically Proven Technology

IPL technology has been tested and proven as a safe hair removal method by dermatologists and medical scientists. Successful clinical studies have been performed on IPL technology and have succeeded in proving its effectiveness and long lasting results.

Hair Growth Cycle

Hair Growth Cycle | evoDerma LUMI™

ANAGEN (Growth Phase)

Hair is growing in this phase. At this point in the growth cycle, hair is attached to the root and is considered to be ‘alive’. This phase of the hair growth cycle lasts anywhere from 4 months to 8 years.

IPL technology works only on hair that is in the Anagen phase. In the Catagen and Telogen phases, hair has been separated from the root, causing hair follicle to remain active despite the IPL treatment.

CATAGEN (Transitional Phase)

This secondary phase is commonly referred to as the transitional phase; in which hair stops growing and the body prepares to get rid of it. In this phase, hair is considered dead, as cellular multiplication stops, and all growth ceases. This stage, where hair stops growing but does not fall out, lasts for 2 to 4 weeks.

TELOGEN (Resting Phase)

Telogen is the final stage of hair growth cycle, commonly referred to as the resting phase. The body will discard dead hair in order to make room for the growth of new hair. As the old hair is naturally shed from the body, new hair starts to form and the cycle begins again with hair follicle returning to the Anagen phase. This phase may last for 2 to 4 months.
